SWISS VISUAL – The present and the past of swiss contemporary photography and video art

« SWISS VISUAL  | the present and the past of swiss contemporary photography and video art » is the second exhibition organized with the grant of the Nishieda foundation. It will take place in the zuiun-an machiya, a traditional style house of a former money changer with a beautiful tearoom and a splendid garden situated in the Kamigamo neighbourhood. As this  year marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan, in both countries will be held celebrations accounting for this important anniversary and we would like to be part of it with photograph and video art from Switzerland here in Kyoto. The show, divided in two periods of time, will also present a selection of videos extracted from the renowned contemporary art collection of the City of Geneva. In addition, a satellite exhibition of Andreas Kressig : « Soapscapes » is hosted in the Hashimoto Kansetsu Memorial (Monō kumo-dō, isuitei chashitsu) before its renovation this fall for the 70th anniversary of the death of the painter. We hope that you will like to walk through this small but intense panorama of Swiss art.

SWISS VISUAL – Le présent et le passé de la photographie et de l’art vidéo contemporains suisses

«SWISS VISUAL | le présent et le passé de la photographie et de l’art vidéo contemporains suisses »est la deuxième exposition organisée avec la subvention de la fondation Nishieda. Il aura lieu dans le zuiun-an machiya, une maison de style traditionnel d’un ancien bureau de change avec un beau salon de thé et un magnifique jardin situé dans le quartier de Kamigamo. Comme cette année marque le 150e anniversaire de l’établissement des relations diplomatiques entre la Suisse et le Japon, dans les deux pays auront lieu des célébrations représentant cet anniversaire important et nous aimerions en faire partie avec des photographies et des vidéos de la Suisse ici à Kyoto. Le salon, divisé en deux périodes, présentera également une sélection de vidéos extraites de la célèbre collection d’art contemporain de la Ville de Genève. De plus, une exposition satellite d’Andreas Kressig: «Savapscapes» est hébergée au Mémorial Hashimoto Kansetsu (Monō kumo-dō, isuitei chashitsu) avant sa rénovation cet automne pour le 70e anniversaire de la mort du peintre.
